So the Steel Industry Priorities

CILEGON - Iron and steel industry is one of the priority industries that play an important role. This industry is one sector of raw material suppliers to the shipbuilding industry, oil and gas industry, heavy equipment, automotive, and eletronika. In addition, the steel industry is a major supporter of infrastructure development in Indonesia.

As stated by the Minister of Industry, Saleh Husin, at the factory visit to PT Krakatau Steel Tbk in Cilegon, Wednesday (26/11). Currently, according to Saleh, the iron and steel industry national experience problems such as dependence of imported raw materials and components are still high, low utilization of the national market, and the implementation and supervision of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) that is not improved.

"We will facilitate and encourage the strengthening of a conducive business climate, especially in the national steel sector. This should be done for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015," he explained.

In order to improve the iron and steel industry nationwide, said Saleh, the strengthening of domestic value added through downstream resource-based industries should be done.
